2023 Clean Water Cross-Program Workshop

May 4, 2023 at 9:00 am – May 5, 2023 at 12:00 pm

Workshop Type: This is a closed co-regulator workshop organized by state and federal regulators for participation by state and federal Clean Water Act program managers. Unless key external stakeholders are invited for specific sessions, we anticipate focused attendance by the state and EPA personnel who manage the CWA 303(c), 303(d), and 402 programs.

Lodging: Rooms are available at the local per-diem rate here. This limited room block will be open through 4/15. We recommend potential attendees book a room as soon as possible.

More Information

Purpose: This workshop series is intended to help states and EPA better integrate the core CWA programs and improve how they respectively and collectively address current CWA challenges. The initial 2023 workshop’s theme is, “Implementing WQS that are Challenging to Meet,” focusing on challenges the 303c, 303d, and 402 programs face when implementing certain WQS. For select parameters, meeting WQS may be very technologically challenging. The workshop will focus on:

  • Enhancing cross-program implementation (e.g., by exploring solutions like WQ targets) based on feasible technologies and best management practices; and,
  • Solutions which would optimize synergy in managing multiple pollutants; coordination among state programs; and collaboration with the regulated community.

Target Audience: The workshop’s target audience is the 1-3 personnel who manage or have deep experience in the 303c, 303d, and 402 programs in a state.

Meeting Venue: This workshop will occur May 4-5, co-located with ACWA’s 8th and final Nutrients Permitting Workshop (May 1-3), at the Tru by Hilton Denver Downtown Convention Center.

Travel Logistics: Coming from Denver International Airport, attendees can take the RTD “A Line” train to Denver Union Station ($10) and connect to the free 16th Street Mall Shuttle to the Stout Street stop, one block from the hotel. Alternatively, the hotel is ~15 minute walk from Union Station or a 30-45 minute drive from Denver International Airport. The hotel is also a ~15 minute walk from EPA Region 8 Headquarters and a ~15 minute drive from Denver Federal Center in Lakewood, CO.
